Ukraine’s street children to take part in photography project

June 1, Kyiv - Homeless people and street children from three cities will photograph the world as they perceive it as part of ‘Photovoice: My Dream,’ an art initiative of the international law firm Clifford Chance Ukraine and Narodna Dopomoha (Helping People), a civic coalition.

Homeless people and street children from Kyiv, Lviv, and Chernivtsi will be given cameras and instruction beginning June 15. The best work will be selected for exhibition in September. Judges will evaluate the photographs as reflections of the authors’ views, their vision and their understanding of the surrounding reality, and the best coverage of substance-abuse problems, child neglect and child abandonment.

An exhibition of the best works and a charity auction will be held in Kyiv in the fall. The event will involve Clifford Chance Ukraine and Narodna Dopomoha, as well as representatives of Ukrainian and foreign charitable foundations, the diplomatic corps, and mass media. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the homeless.

“We hope that by helping people to see the world that homeless children live in, we can raise greater awareness of their plight,” said Jared Grubb, managing partner of the Clifford Chance office in Kyiv. “We hope that funds raised by the auction will provide help to those in need.”
