At the end of 2011, George Barboutis, Partner has joined Corporate and Finance practice of DLA Piper.  Arrival of George will significantly enhance Capital Markets practice of the firm.  George is based in London.

George has advised on various significant capital markets transactions throughout the EMEA region (such as advising the underwriters on the Euro 1.12 billion offering of shares of the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization by the Greek State), including offerings of companies in the CIS (such as advising the underwriters on the IPO on the LSE of Acron, the Russian fertilizer manufacturer), and has worked closely with a number of leading investment banks.  In addition, he has advised on a number of high-profile securities offerings out of Ukraine, including listings on the Warsaw and the London Stock Exchanges (most recently advising on the proposed WSE listings and IPOs of Geo-Alliance and Vioil).

Comments Margarita Karpenko, Managing Partner of the Kyiv office of DLA Piper: "For DLA Piper, George’s appointment advances the strategic goals of further developing the capital markets practice in Europe and building a truly integrated global capital markets capability for our clients.  Given that George has a lot of experience working not only for international but also for Ukrainian companies, our capital markets service offering in Ukraine becomes unsurpassed".

George comes to DLA Piper from Dewey & LeBoeuf, where he was a partner based in London, practicing in that firm’s Capital Markets group.  Prior to that he was at Shearman & Sterling and Norton Rose.  He has worked on a wide range of equity, equity-linked, debt capital markets offerings, among them both SEC-registered and Rule 144A/Regulation S transactions, IPOs, US and London listings and structured finance transactions, as well as M&A transactions.

George has been named in the influential Legal 500 in 2008, 2009 and 2010 as a leading US equity capital markets and debt capital markets practitioner.  He is a published author and has spoken extensively on the subject of capital markets.  George received his LLM from Harvard Law School, his PhD in international law from the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London, and his LLB from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Law School.  He is admitted in New York, as a solicitor in England and Wales, and in Greece.
