KYIV - The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) founded in London in 1915 and granted a Royal Charter by Queen Elizabeth II in 1979, is now a center for global promotion and facilitation of international arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

Chartered status for Arbitrators was introduced in 1999 and was intended to act as a "gold standard" for practitioners. Thus, the Chartered Arbitrator is the highest-level arbitration qualification of CIArb, available only to the Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators with an advanced knowledge and understanding of arbitration who demonstrated a high degree of professional competence and a substantial record of service as an arbitrator.

Tatyana Slipachuk, Partner with Vasil Kisil & Partners, is the first and so far the only representative from Ukraine who has been honored to qualify as the Chartered Arbitrator. In the CIS countries, the Chartered status has been awarded to only two arbitrators – Professor Aleksandr Komarov and Sergei Lebedev (both from the Russian Federation).

In other European countries, this prestigious designation is limited to two arbitrators in Switzerland, tree - in France,  five arbitrators in Germany, and respectively only one in Italy. This also confirms that the Chartered Arbitrator status reflects the highest achievable academic standard. It is the benchmark that all dispute resolution professionals aim to achieve.
