We are pleased to report that Holtec’s turnkey project for installation and commissioning of an Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI), at Mexico's national utility, Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant, is moving rapidly toward completion. Commencing with the contract signing in December of 2014, the Holtec and CFE project teams have completed all design and engineering, fabrication of major equipment and construction of the storage pad, as well as the Holtec’s patented subterranean Canister Transfer Facility (CTF), in just sixteen (16) months. The project is in the final stages of implementing the security systems to guard the ISFSI facility.

The delivery of dry storage systems and other major equipment is in progress. Dry run demonstrations for CFE and their regulator, Comisión Nacional de Seguridad Nuclear y Salvaguardias (CNSNS), are progressing with the first dry run complete. Holtec’s Site Services group is preparing for the loading of thirteen (13) HI-STORM FW systems, beginning in July and ending in November of this year.

Completed ISFSI

CFE Project Manager, Federico Gonzalez, made the following comments, “This completed ISFSI Pad represents the completion of the construction phase of the largest current project at Laguna Verde. We are very pleased with Holtec International’s experience and work on this project, which is necessary for the continued operation of LVNPP. The schedule was very aggressive and the 130 cask pad has been completed in record time of fourteen (14) months. The completion of this loading campaign will signify the reduction of 18% of the fuel assemblies in the Spent Fuel Pool.”

“We are pleased with the diligence and collaborative spirit exhibited by the CFE and Holtec teams that has led to a typically three (3) year-long effort completed in a mere sixteen (16) months, with the highest levels of safety and quality,” says Mr. P.K. Chaudhary, Senior VP of Operations.
