KYIV, UKRAINE -- CMS Cameron McKenna, a member of the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC), Wash, D.C., has announced that Daniel Bilak, Managing Partner of the firm`s Ukraine practice, has been seconded as Chief Investment Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and Director of the Ukraine Investment Promotion Office (IPO) by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

According to the CMS Cameron McKenna news release, “This will take effect from 1 November 2016 for one year. For this year Daniel will step down from his CMS responsibilities. Graham Conlon, English-qualified solicitor, the Co-Head of International Private Equity, and the Head of Corporate for CMS Cameron McKenna Ukraine, will be acting managing partner of the Kyiv office whilst Daniel is on secundment.

“In his new role, Daniel will lead the IPO, with a mission to attract investment into Ukraine through outreach to and collaboration with investors seeking to enter the Ukrainian market, thereby contributing the development of a strong and independent private business sector and Ukraine’s economic growth.

“A Canadian-qualified lawyer, Daniel has over 25 years of experience working in the private and public sectors in Ukraine, advising major international and Ukrainian clients in the energy, agribusiness, infrastructure and technology sectors, regarding investment and regulatory issues in Ukraine and the region. He has also been acting as Counsel to the Business Ombudsman Institution, a key anti-corruption mechanism for the business community in Ukraine.

"Daniel previously served as a senior United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) governance expert, advising on rule of law, anti-corruption and regulatory issues to the Ukrainian government, including the President, Prime Minister, and the Minister of Justice of Ukraine. He also advised the governments of Bulgaria and Lithuania on rule of law issues as part of their EU accession process.
