Oleksandr Kamyshin is a prominent Ukrainian executive and former government official, best known for his leadership in Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and defense sectors. Born in Kyiv in 1984, he earned his degree in finance from the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and began his career at KPMG before holding leadership roles at Kyiv Motorcycle Plant, Dragon Capital, and SCM Holdings. In 2021, Kamyshin became the CEO of Ukrainian Railways, where he gained international recognition for maintaining the country’s railway system under extreme wartime conditions during the full-scale Russian invasion.
From March 2023 to September 2024, Kamyshin served as Ukraine’s Minister of Strategic Industries. In this role, he spearheaded reforms of the defense sector, increased private sector involvement, and facilitated a surge in domestic production of military equipment. He played a key role in restructuring Ukroboronprom into a joint-stock company, enabled numerous international defense partnerships, and helped launch the “Iron Shelter” initiative – a nationwide effort to audit and renovate Ukraine’s network of civil defense shelters. Under his tenure, Ukraine hosted its first International Defense Industries Forum, established the Alliance of Defense Industries, and launched joint ventures with global manufacturers such as Rheinmetall and Baykar. Kamyshin continues to shape Ukraine’s defense future as a member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrainian Railways.
