Holtec International has secured the U.S. Department of Energy’s highly competitive Tier 1 award to accelerate development of its dual-unit SMR-300 project at the Palisades Energy site in Michigan. The $400 million funding will support licensing, pre-construction activities, and supply-chain mobilization for the first-of-its-kind small modular reactor deployment. The project, known as PIONEER 1&2, is expected to deliver 680 MWe of new clean energy in the early 2030s.
