Advancing one of the most closely watched new nuclear projects in the United States, Holtec International has formally initiated the regulatory process to construct two SMR-300 units by submitting Part 1 of its construction permit application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The filing includes requests for limited work authorization and environmental review, positioning the project among a small group of officially docketed NRC applicants. Approval would enable early construction activities at the Palisades Energy Center in Michigan and support the deployment of next-generation baseload nuclear power in the early 2030s.
