FOUNDATION FOR DEVELOPMENT OF UKRAINE, SCM SUPPORT JOURNALISM STUDENTS

The Foundation for Development of Ukraine, with the support of System Capital Management, is now accepting applications to participate in its DFJ -Digital Future Journalism program at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The program trains young, up-and-coming journalists in new media. Now in its third year, the program promotes new media as the future of the profession, teaches participants new skills and equips them to pass on their new knowledge. MICROSOFT LAUNCHES ONLINE RESOURCE FOR TEACHERS

On October 16, Microsoft Ukraine announced the launch of a professional online resource for teachers called the Partnership in Learning Network, which helps teachers use information and communication technology to increase the quality of education. The network, which unites more than 1.5 mln teachers from 59 countries, gives teachers access to educational programs and provides them with a forum in which to share ideas, news and experience. This network builds on the idea of sharing best practices in learning, a foundational belief of Microsoft, which also sponsors the Innovative Teacher competition with the Ministry of Science and Education. In 2008, more than 370 teachers throughout Ukraine participated in the contest. Contest winners represented Ukraine at the European Forum of Innovative Teachers. YENAKIYEVO STEEL PLANT PLANS TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

Donetsk oblast's Yenakiyevo Steel Plant (YeMZ), part of Metinvest Group, has signed an agreement with ING Bank NV of the Netherlands to jointly development an implementation plan of Kyoto protocol for the plant. The project will introduce energy-saving technology, reduce the plant's ecological impact by cutting emissions and increase the energy efficiency of plant equipment. According to preliminary estimates, these measures will help cut greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 1.5m tons of CO2 by 2012. YeMZ has a long-term program in place to modernize and reconstruct its production. The plan controls the volume of plant emissions and ensures they continue to decrease.
