Kyiv - DLA Piper, a global law firm, announced today the beginning of the All-Ukraine Scholarship Competition for Law Students of 2012. The Competition is running 6th year in a row for students of law departments of the Ukrainian Universities.  Within the frames of its CSR practice DLA Piper is glad to give an opportunity to a new generation of Ukrainian lawyers to take a step towards professional growth.  Winners of the competition will take traineeships in the offices of DLA Piper, including abroad, and will receive a monetary scholarship during the academic year.

"This year the procedure of the Competition is slightly changed - we did it to improve quality of winners selection process. Now we will hold round tables with semifinalists of the competition to choose finalists. Earlier, interviews used to be held only with the finalists (winners) of the competition. As usual, this year we will check general level of students' professional skills, their analytic skills and knowledge of English. Besides, students will have to defend their written essays before the Judging Panel of the Competition.  Based on the results of the round tables we will select 4 finalists who will be awarded", comments Margarita Karpenko, Managing Partner of Kyiv office of DLA Piper.

Judging Panel of the 2012 Competition includes:

  • Kravchenko Olga, Head of Legal Department, Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sport of Ukraine
  • Lazurenko Anna, Head of Legal, Louis Dreyfus Commodities Ltd. LLC
  • Vakhel Yuriy, Head of Legal and Business Development, Noble Resources Ukraine LLC, member of UBA’s Audit Committee.

Application forms and written essays shall be submitted before 15 November 2012. Round tables with semi-finalists and the award ceremony will take place in January 2013 after all necessary reviews.
All-Ukraine Scholarship Competition for Law Students of 2012 is traditionally supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine and by the Students' League of Ukrainian Bar Association. Media partners are: Yurydychna Praktyka Weekly, magazines "Ukrainian Journal of Business Law", "Ukrainskiy Yurist", "Sudovy Vypusk", and the information agency "Interfax".
