As co-chairman of the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation, I participated in the meeting of the Foundation’s Board meeting, which took place in Chicago on March 19.
One of the reasons for calling the meeting was Ukraine’s crisis of academic freedom and university autonomy, which reached a critical limit.
The Board adopted a Resolution aimed at calling attention of the world’s community to the subversive activities in the sphere of education of D. Tabachnik, current Minister of Education, Research, Youth and Sports.
The Minister is a Ukraino-phobe, whose goal is to stop the integration of Ukraine into the European educational space, and limit university autonomy and transparency.
It has become clear a long time ago that Tabachnik is a compliant instrument in the hands of the Kremlin, implementing his principal function – to sabotage the development of Ukrainian education and the competitiveness of our youth, our nation’s most valuable capital.
Thus, the Board of the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation brought to the attention of the academic community of those countries that signed the Bologna Declaration, the fact that the Ukraine’s current government has not complied with the obligations to which it agreed when it signed the Bologna Agreement.
Furthermore, the Board appealed to the President of Ukraine, the Prime-Minister and the Minister of Education, Research, Youth and Sports, to stop the reversal of the development of Ukrainian education and research, and fulfill its obligations and implementation of the Bologna Agreement. The text of our appeal is in the Resolution, which is included below.
