Alla Savchenko told about the rules for running the family business
BDO, Kyiv, Ukraine, Kyiv, Ukraine, 13 May, 2012
President of BDO in Ukraine, held a lecture on family business in two business schools: International Management Institute and Edinburgh Business School. The event was attended by about 100 students of these schools and specially invited business representatives.
In her presentation, Ms. Savchenko noted that according to statistics 85% of European companies are family businesses. It is important to understand that the family business has its own laws and culture, which significantly differ from "regular" companies. Although the concept of family business in Ukraine has not yet reached a proper level, during communication with the participants it has revealed that one way or another almost every one of them faces this phenomenon. Either a spouse or children work in the own business, or there is someone who works in the family business and is a distant relative, or someone works in the family business, without being a member of the family. Ms. Savchenko noted that every family business is unique. In the examples, she told the participants how to better build a relationship and what the rules are to be followed in each case. In this case it is always important to remember that the family business, as well as non-family one, is a commercial venture, which should be administered at a high professional level.
