Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU – new opportunities for businesses, and issues which businesses should be prepared to face

On 20May 2014 PwC Ukraine conducted a business-breakfast dedicated to the AssociationAgreement between Ukraine and the EU.
RonBarden, Partner and leader of tax and legal services of PwC Ukraine opened the business-breakfastby outlining the main “myths” related to the Association Agreement.
OlgaAndrienko-Bentz, Consulting Director of PwC Ukraine, defined possible scenariosof economic development in Ukraine, highlighting the main sensitive economicsectors of Ukraine, as well as those which may be ready for trade to the EU.
DenisShendryk, leader of the customs practice in PwC Ukraine, discussed thefollowing issues:
· decreasingof Ukrainian and EU’s customs duty by economic sectors, and tariff quotas forcertain goods
· themain changes in the technical requirements for goods
· additionalopportunities in the trade of services, reciprocal public procurements and extentionof trade markets
· expectedchanges in environmental safety requirements, antitrust and labour legislation,etc.
Lyudmila Melnik, Senior Specialist of indirect taxationpractice of PwC Ukraine, presented an overview of potential tax changes after implementation of theprovisions of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
During the presentation the speakers outlined that Ukrainianand foreign companies should take active steps to estimate potential risks andpossible benefits from the planned signing of the Association Agreement.Businesses should not hesitate, or risk losing precious time.
