Asters is the first Ukrainian law firm to sign the Declaration for Gender Equality and Prevention of Domestic Violence. The initiative is implemented in Ukraine by UNFPA (the United Nations Population Fund) and the Center for Corporate Social Responsibility Development.
Upon acceding to the Declaration, the firm has committed itself to promote cooperation to empower women's rights, to implement gender-sensitive approaches in its operations, to create conditions for decent work and equal employment environment, as well as to contribute to the prevention of domestic violence and the establishment of zero tolerance to domestic violence. More than 30 leading businesses and associations operating in Ukraine (such as ЕВА, Nestle, Mondelez, METRO, Danone, and GlobalLogic) have already signed the Declaration.
The gender equality principles have long been incorporated in the Asters' company policies. The firm supports She is Science project promoting gender equality in Ukraine. Asters also participates in the WINS (Women Initiative to Network Success) project by Lex Mundi global network of law firms.
“Shaping a society where everyone can realize their potential is the responsibility of each of us. Engagement of private companies that are employers for hundreds and thousands of people is dictated by time and modern challenges. We are happy to welcome Asters, the largest law firm in Ukraine, as a signee of the Declaration – by joining our efforts we make another step towards the equal future”, – comments Jaime Nadal, UNFPA Representative in Ukraine.
"The UN General Assembly invited member states to proclaim 8 March as the International Day for women's rights promoting gender equality around the world," – comments Asters Senior Partner Armen Khachaturyan. "By signing the UNFPA's Declaration we have joined efforts with the other leading Ukrainian businesses enhancing social awareness of importance of gender equality and prevention of domestic violence."
