BDO in Ukraine took first place in a national contest “Corporate Volunteering in Ukraine – 2011” in nomination “Improving the quality of life” under category “Small and Medium Size Companies.” The contest has been held during the last year and brought together the best practices of business that help solving acute social and environmental problems of society, involving expertise and knowledge of companies, their experience and professional lives of employees.

Over 20 Ukrainian companies participated in the contest this year, which was held in Ukraine for the second time and has been initiated by the Foundation “Eastern Europe” in partnership with the UN Global Compact in Ukraine, the program UN Volunteers, European Business Association, American Chamber of Commerce, Peace Corps and Ukrainian Philanthropists Forum. BDO had to compete with strong and experienced members and pass the assessment of the jury, which comprised representatives of the UN Global Compact, the Ukrainian media and specialized expert organizations.

In 2008 BDO initiated a “volunteer initiatives to prevent human trafficking”, being successfully implemented for over 3 years now. Employees of the Company held a large number of information seminars. “The main goal of BDO is to raise the level of awareness of the problem of young people trafficking and as a result - reduce the number of people who become victims of this crime, by demonstrating the best examples of companies - employers of Ukraine, that act as the guarantor of social sectors and, in fact, are responsible for the welfare of human and his family. We aim to demonstrate the example of high social responsibility to the state and society pay, much attention to skills, motivation and involvement of employees in CSR” - comments Julia Tarakanova, Head of CSR at BDO.

We hope that in future the number of companies that decide to join the volunteering activities will increase.
