On 17 November 2011, CMS Cameron McKenna held a seminar dedicated to urgent practical issues of personal data protection. Its purpose was to assist HR officers, in-house counsels and other employees by sharing with them our practical experience related to recent approaches to the application of laws in this field.

Olexander Martinenko, Senior Partner and Head of the CRD practice (Commercial, Regulatory and Disputes), and Olga Belyakova, Senior Associate and Commercial Practice Coordinator in the Kyiv office of CMS Cameron McKenna, were the speakers at the seminar.

Olga Belyakova started with the presentation in which she touched upon the categories of personal data to be processed in databases, but are often ignored. She gave certain practical advice on how to fill accurately and obtain consents from business entities to process their data by database owners and pointed out to some practical aspects of transferring personal data abroad by discussing the risks inherent to, and essential provisions of agreements for, transferring personal data to third parties. Olga also considered the role and specifics of drafting policies related to protection and processing of company' personal data. Olexander Martinenko continued the seminar with general rules for monitoring employees' activities and summarized the presentation by general practical recommendations on personal data protection.

The seminar was attended by representatives of major international and domestic companies active in various sectors of the economy and dealing with the processing of personal data pertaining to their employees and clients.
