Launch brings Dentons to Mexico’s manufacturing center and energy hub
9 January 2017 - Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, today opened a new office in Monterrey, Mexico. It is the firm’s second office in Mexico, following the launch of Dentons López Velarde in Mexico City last year.
The new office, a product of the combination of Monterrey firm Canales Zambrano y Asociados with Dentons López Velarde, enables Dentons to provide clients a full array of legal services in Mexico’s most important manufacturing center and energy hub.
“We are thrilled to have the skilled lawyers of one of Monterrey’s most highly regarded firms join with Dentons López Velarde,” said Rogelio López Velarde, Dentons’ Mexico Managing Partner. “The combination of our Mexico City and Monterrey capabilities greatly enhances our ability to serve clients of all types on a national scale.”
“Today’s Monterrey opening is another step in the strategy initiated by the establishment of Dentons offices in Mexico City and Bogotá last year and last month’s announcement that Dentons will become the first global law firm to serve Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama when we combine with Muñoz Global later this year,” said Jorge Alers, Dentons’ Chief Executive Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean. “We continue to make significant and rapid progress toward our goal of meeting client needs throughout the entirety of Latin America and the Caribbean.”
“We want to connect clients to talented lawyers wherever those clients operate,” said Joe Andrew, Global Chairman of Dentons. “With this combination, we can now provide clients in Mexico and around the world high quality, locally informed legal counsel and business solutions in Mexico’s most dynamic energy and manufacturing market.”
“Since our opening in Mexico City, inbound and outbound cross border work relating to Mexico has increased dramatically.” said Elliott Portnoy, Global Chief Executive Officer of Dentons. “Extending our reach to Monterrey, with its large number of trade oriented domestic and international companies, will be an important new asset for our clients around the world.”
Dentons López Velarde’s Monterrey lawyers have extensive experience in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border financing and complex international transactions, with particular strengths in energy, international trade, corporate restructuring, maquiladora manufacturing and real estate.
