Kyiv, 18May 2012.Ernst & Young Ukraine’s Tax & Law practice has won the National Tax Firm of the Year award at the prestigious International Tax Review (ITR) annual European Tax Awards. The award ceremony took place in London on 16 May 2012.

The European Tax Awards, judged by the International Tax Review editorial team, celebrate the most innovative tax transactional, structuring, litigation and transfer pricing work done in Europe. The awards are handed to firms that demonstrate excellence, innovation and an ability to deal with complexity in each category.

2011 was a year of fundamental changes in the tax regulations in Ukraine. Ernst & Young assisted clients in developing custom-tailored and innovative solutions for their businesses given the new tax reality. We helped our clients make the transition to the new tax rules, performing comprehensive analyses of their businesses to find more tax-efficient ways of structuring them. We also helped clients develop detailed tax methodologies providing guidance to personnel on the tax treatment of their transactions under the new rules.

Vladimir Kotenko, Partner, Head of Tax & Law at Ernst & Young Ukraine, comments: “We are glad to receive this award as recognition of our excellent team, which continuously delivers value to our clients. An award for the work we did in the year of tax reform is especially meaningful. The span of projects we performed last year was phenomenal, ranging from the development of comprehensive tax methodologies that provide guidance under the new Tax Code to pro bono activities to improve the tax legislation. Our clients, who have entrusted us with the handling of their tax matters, have confirmed once again their view of Ernst & Young as the premier tax advisory practice, and we are proud of and thankful for that.”

Peter Reinhardt, Ernst & Young, CIS Tax & Law Leader: “This award reflects all of the great work that our professionals in Ukraine have performed during the past year. Since landmark new tax legislation in Ukraine took effect last year, we have indeed been the clear market leader in tax services, in the number and complexity of our engagements and in the services we perform for the wider business community. Our goal is to help everyone understand the requirements of the new Ukrainian tax legislation and manage their business effectively in the new environment.
