17-18 November, 2011 leading experts in the field of international arbitration, and representatives of international arbitration institutions gathered for the annual international conference entitled Kyiv Arbitration Days, which was organized by the Ukrainian Bar Association with the purpose of discussing challenges and prospects of the international arbitration in Ukraine and CIS countries.

The head of Vasil Kisil & Partners Dispute Resolution Practice partner Oleksiy Filatov, as well as associates Pavlo Byelousov, Myroslava Savchuk and Olena Zadorozhna represented the firm at the event.

During the conference experts discussed the integrity of international commercial arbitration, the evolving role of state courts in the arbitration process, the issue of confidentiality and its limits, particularly in the context of state action / state agencies / state officials.

Leading international experts shared their experience and expertise regarding some practical aspects of assessing costs and damages in international arbitration, the latest approaches to risk insurance, reimbursement and cost management, as well as professional fine points of conducting arbitration proceedings.

Oleksiy Filatov, the Head of VKP’s Dispute Resolution Practice, moderated a session dedicated to a very important and delicate aspect of ethics in arbitration proceedings. During this session, the participants reviewed the challenge of an arbitrator under the laws of different countries and other ethical issues related to participation of the parties, witnesses and lawyers in international arbitration. Commenting on the performance of domestic and international experts, Mr. Filatov said: "This esteemed event is a great opportunity for Ukrainian lawyers who practice dispute resolution to expand their professional horizons and gain valuable advice from international experts, right from the horse's mouth, as well as to assess their approaches to the arbitration processes".
