Launching a Series of Expert Workshops under the "EURObusiness" Project

On May 20, 2014, the Edinburgh BusinessSchool Eastern Europe hosted an opening ceremony launching a new businesseducation project "EURObusiness.How to use the European integration to your advantage?” organized by the EdinburghBusiness School Eastern Europe, DYB Business Club, NGO “Center UA” and VasilKisil & Partners. This educational project targets business owners andsenior managers.
Its program includesa series of seminars and case studies designed to provide businesses withalgorithms of working with the EU countries: how to begin and how to beeffective; what businesses need to know to maximize the benefits of enteringthe European markets starting today. The first block of the program is"General Information: challenges and benefits of trading with the EU"was presented by Mr Pavlo Sheremeta, Minister ofEconomic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Mr Taras Kachka, expert on European integration, a member of the Ukrainiandelegation that conducted negotiations with the EU on the Association Agreementbetween Ukraine and the EU, and Ms JocelynGuitton, Trade Affairs Manager of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
Main topicscovered in the first portion of the programme covered new opportunities forUkrainian producers in connection with the opening of the European market,cooperation between business and authorities in dealing with bureaucraticchallenges, the adoption of European standards for Ukrainian products,Ukrainian trade policy and, in particular, problems of product certification.
On May 21, 2014, the first seminar in theframework of “EURObusiness” project on "The rules of faircompetition" took place presented by MariyaNizhnik, Partner, Head of Antitrust and Competition Practice, and VKP’ssenior associate Sergey Denisenko. The following issues were discussed:
• Ukraine’s obligations concerning EUrequirements: what should Ukrainian businesses expect.
• Access to the EU market: the basic rulesof competition.
• AMC’s requirements for cooperationbetween Ukrainian and European companies.
An avalancheof questions and a lively discussion focused on the specific steps required foradapting Ukrainian legislation to EU requirements, trends in the development ofantitrust regulation and regulatory issues that have a major influence on thedevelopment of the market, as well as cases of violations of the antimonopolylegislation, including regarding unfair competition.
