Paolo Barbieri, Regional Director of DuPont Pioneer in Europe, was chosen to join the board of directors of the European Seed Association (ESA). Paolo’s presence in the ESA will give Pioneer’s business a stronger voice to complement the work carried out by other DuPont Pioneer colleagues in a number of ESA committees and working groups on issues that have a critical impact on business, such as seed marketing legislation in the European Union, seed treatment regulations, phytosanitary regulations and Intellectual Property policies and others.

ESA’s stated mission is to assure the effective protection of intellectual property rights relating to plants and seeds, fair and proportionate regulation of the European seed industry and freedom of choice for its customers (farmers, growers, industry, consumers). In doing so, it represents the European seed industry via the European institutions and their representatives, i.e. the European Parliament, the Council, the Commission and the Community Plant Variety Office, as well as towards other industry associations, NGOs, the international press and the wider interested public.

ESA’s main activities relate to the timely and competent information of its membership, to serve as a dialogue platform for the entire industry and towards other interested parties, and to actively reach out, advocate and lobby for the interests of the seed sector on the base of commonly agreed policy positions and strategies.

“I feel honored to have been given the opportunity to contribute to the market and help European seed industry with the issues it is facing. Working together with other companies we have to focus on how we can strengthen our industry on all of the levels committing to increasing productivity and profitability of the farmers all over Europe” Paolo Barbieri said. “I hope my experience of doing business in different countries and the experience of my colleagues will jointly develop a strategy for effective development of the seed industry in Europe”.

Paolo Barbieri was named Regional Director, DuPont Pioneer Europe on July 1, 2015. In his role, Paolo is responsible for leading business operations across Europe. He coordinates and leads the Pioneer Europe Management Team, including the functional areas of the business, such as sales and marketing, supply chain, production, research, legal, communications, government affairs, human resources, finance and administration.

Paolo started his career in DuPont in 1990 and has served in a number of different roles and countries. Paolo received his Business Economics degree from the Bocconi University in Milan, Italy and an Advanced Management degree from the IESE University in Barcelona, Spain. He was also granted a Honorary PHD in Printing Sciences from the University of Moscow, Russia.
