Expert Ukraine, a business and economy magazine, organised the 6th international conference on corporate social responsibility on 24 April. This year it ran under the title “Social Responsibility of Business. Investment in the Future”. SCM became a primary partner of the conference and presented its Sustainability Report 2010-H1 2011.

The report shows key information about economic, environmental and social aspects of the SCM Group’s operations. Compared with previous reports, it gives more details about engagement with stakeholders (NGOs, local governments, the communities where the Group operates) and anti-corruption initiatives. The report features achievements and challenges of the SCM Group and covers performance of SCM managing company, industrial holdings – Metinvest and DTEK – and non-industrial companies of the SCM Group. The information is arranged into six business areas: mining and metals, energy, finance, telecommunications, media and real estate.

The report is structured according to SCM’s priorities of corporate responsibility and takes into account the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines, UN Global Compact principles, as well as the Ukrainian legislation and requirements of the national statistical authorities. Ernst&Young performed independent assurance of the report.

“Being the biggest national investor we realise that sustainable operation of the Group has a significant impact on the welfare in the regions of our operations and the country on the whole. Sustainable growth of SCM, in turn, depends much on how transparently we work, how we build our dialogue with stakeholders and what level of trust we have with the society. It depends on our transparency and availability of information about us,” said Natalia Yemchenko, SCM Director of Public Relations and Communications. “SCM Sustainability Report that we have publsihed for the fourth consecutive year is an important instrument helping us to tell all key audiences about the Group’s performance and our contribution to the development of Ukraine. This is an integral element of our dialogue with the society.”
