The Omelan Pritsak Archival Collection Opens at the Research Library of National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy"

The Research Library of the National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy" finalized the monumental systematic task to digitize and catalogue the valuable collection of the Omelan Pritsak Archives.
Omelan Pritsak (07.04.1919 - 29.05.2006), was a prominent scholar, philologist, Orientalist, historian, member of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, founder and first director of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute (1973-1989), the International Association of Ukrainian Studies, the recipient of numerous honorary doctorates from world-renowned universities, and member of many international academic organizations.
The Omelan Pritsak Archive is part of the testamentary legacy bequeathed to the National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy, received in 2007, a collection that consists of archival materials, books, documents, correspondence, art work, and many items that formed the academic environment of the renown scholar. The entire collection is part of a separate department at the University Library and forms the "Memorial office library Omelyan Pritsak" at Street. , 8/5, Building 4.
The archival contents are catalogued as follows: First, Research and creative materials and personal documents of O. Pritsak and his collection of materials and collections; Second Research and creative materials and personal of others written in the Cyrillic alphabet; and Third, scientific (I am translating this as “research materials” and creative materials (what do they mean by “creative”? this is a Google translation, the original refers to “academic-research and creative, I suppose they mean non-research? novels? art books? ) of others in the Latin alphabet.

The digitized archive includes 7940 cases, 34,213 documents on 198,898 pages. The initial structurizing and assembly of the Archive and formulation of documents by sections, subsections and actions, were implemented according to methodology of work originating from private individual collections. The three schematics of categories of documents are reflect not only the subject matter or topic (substance of the archival collections) of Omelan Pritsak, but also his own approach of organizing archives, especially the individual groups and complex documents.

The monumental work of processing, systematization and description of archival collections of the Omelan Pritsak Archives was performed by research professionals of the Omelan Pritsak Center for Oriental Studies at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and the Kyiv-Mohyla Research Library, T.M. Sydorchuk, I.V. Sribnjak, H.V. Potulnytskyj, H.V. Khrobolova.
The work on the archive was made possible also because of the generous assistance of the International Renaissance Foundation, and the students, colleagues and staff from National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy, and from National Taras Shevchenko University in Kyiv, who deserve immeasurable appreciation.
