Vitaly Kasko defended 24 human trafficking victims

Vitaly Kasko, Partner, Head of the Representation in the European Court forHuman Rights at Arzinger Law Office, defended 24 Vietnamese citizens againstunlawful deportation. Vitaly is an expert on criminal law, migration issues andprotection of human rights. This legal support was provided within Arzinger'scharitable program for defense of violated human rights and freedoms, in thiscase – foreign citizens, victims of human trafficking in Ukraine.
The court of first instance decided on immediate forced deportation of thevictims disregarding their long-term captivity in a sewing shop in Odessa andunpaid exploitation of their work.
In order to ensure that victims are able to realize their rights andprotection guaranties in Ukraine and to participate in criminal proceedingsagainst their exploiters, Arzinger, with reference to international treaties inthis sphere binding for Ukraine, in particular, the Council of EuropeanConvention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings 2005, successfully appealedto Odessa Administrative Court of Appeals against the deportation decision andrestored, in this way, legal rights of the human trafficking victims, namelytheir right to freedom. The victims will receive rehabilitation aid from publicauthorities and public organization active in this sphere based on the Law ofUkraine "On Prevention of Trafficking in Human Beings".
