On August 1, 2012, at the initiative of the European Business Association (EBA) there was a meeting devoted to the application of intellectual property rights procedures at customs border. The meeting was attended by representatives of EBA's Agrochemical Committee and the Consumer Electronics Committee.

The main goal of the event was to discuss topical issues related to intellectual property rights protection from the illegal importation of counterfeit goods, as well as to review registration of intellectual property objects in the customs register.

Tetyana Kudrytska, leading lawyer with Vasil Kisil & Partners gave a presentation on Intellectual Property Protection at Customs Border, covering issues such as specifics of customs control and customs clearance of goods containing objects of IP law, the order of suspending customs clearance of goods suspected of IP rights infringement, a simplified procedure for destruction of goods, customs clearance suspended on suspicion of IP rights violation, IP rights registration of objects in the customs register, etc.

Meeting attendees showed particular interest in practicalities of how to go about getting such objects of IP rights as inventions, utility models and plant varieties into the customs register.
