INVITATION -  The U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC) will host a working meeting with the new U.S. Embassy Economic Section Officers in Kyiv, John Paul (JP) Schutte, Counselor for Economic Affairs; Doug O'Neill, Deputy Economic Counselor; and Michael Latham, Financial Economics and Trade Unit Chief, on Friday, September 8, 2017, from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Conference Room offices of SigmaBleyzer, 6 Baseyna Street, Mandarin Plaza, 8th Floor, Kyiv, Ukraine (see directions below).  

The Economic Section’s primary goal is to build a strong bilateral economic relationship with Ukraine through negotiating government-to-government agreements, facilitating technical assistance opportunities, promoting U.S. trade and investment. We are very fortunate to have an opportunity to meet with John Paul (JP) Schutte, Doug O'Neill and Michael Latham in Kyiv and to discuss recent economic and business developments in Ukraine, the business and investment environment for international companies and other key issues.  The U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC) works very closely with the Economic Section of U.S. Embassy in Kyiv. A Q&A session will be held after the initial introductions and statements.

John Paul ("JP" ) Schutte, Counselor for Economic Affairs, U.S. Embassy in Kyiv -----

John Paul ("JP" ) Schutte is the new Counselor for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine.  He has been a Foreign Service Officer  since 1992. This is his second tour in Kyiv, where he also worked from 2004 to 2007.  JP has served overseas in Warsaw as Deputy and Acting Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs, and in Bangkok as Cultural Affairs Officer, and as a political-economic officer in Tashkent, Other postings include The Hague and Amsterdam. 

He has served twice in Washington, most recently as Deputy Director of the State Department's Office of European Union and Regional Affairs.   JP has received the Assistant Secretary's Award for Democracy and Human Rights, and State Department Superior Honor Awards.  A native of Omaha, Nebraska, JP holds a Bachelor's degree with honors in European History from Northwestern University, and a Master's degree from Johns Hopkins SAIS in Western Europe and International Economics.  He has also studied in Germany, France, and Italy and speaks eight foreign languages.

Doug O’Neill, Deputy Counselor for Economic Affairs at U.S. Embassy in Kyiv -----

Doug O’Neill is a new Deputy Counselor for Economic Affairs at U.S. Embassy in Kyiv. Doug has served as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer since 2003.  Prior to Kyiv, Doug worked in Hanoi, Vietnam as one of two Deputy Economic Chiefs, leading the Embassy’s busy Environment, Science, Technology and Health Unit. 

Prior to Vietnam, Doug worked as a Desk Officer in the State Department’s Office of Maritime Southeast Asia and a Watch Officer in the State Department’s Operations Center.  Doug also served overseas as a Political/Economic Officer in Paramaribo, Suriname and a Consular Officer in St. Petersburg, Russia.  He is the recipient of multiple Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards from the State Department.
 
Prior to the Foreign Service, Doug worked as an economist at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Uzbekistan.  He received a B.A. in Economics and English from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, which included a year of study at the University of Tübingen in Germany.

Michael Latham - Economic Section Officer - Macroecononmics, Financial Sector, Trade Issues ----

Michael Latham joined the Economic Section of the Embassy this summer and manages a team that covers macroeconomics, the financial sector and trade issues.  Previously he worked in the State Department’s Economic Bureau on trade issues in Eastern Europe and in the Environmental Bureau coordinating U.S. policy with the United Nations Environment Program. 

His previous overseas assignments include the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, the Republic of Macedonia and Kyrgyzstan.  He has received a number of State Department awards.  He received a B.A. from Claremont McKenna College in California and a PhD in Management from the University of Minnesota.  Michael’s wife is also a Foreign Service officer working at the Embassy.

DIRECTIONS TO KYIV OFFICES OF SIGMABLEYZER:  The SigmaBleyzer offices are in the Arena City/Mandarin Plaza complex across the street from the Bessarabsky Market. The entrance to the SigmaBleyzer offices is inside the open-air inner courtyard of the complex, NOT inside the Mandarin Plaza shopping center. There are several entrances to the inner courtyard of the Arena City/Mandarin Plaza complex. Please note that cars are not allowed inside the courtyard.

(1) IF DRIVING FROM TARAS SHEVCHENKO BOULEVARD/UNIVERSITY AREA, cross Khreshchatyk Street and enter through an arch with stairs and a ramp under a red Arena canopy next to the Pinchuk Art Centre across the street from Bessarabsky Market. If you missed this entrance, you can go from Baseyna Street through main entrance to the Mandarin Plaza shopping center after turning right onto Baseyna Street. Take elevators or escalators up one floor from the first floor and then go through a corridor between clothing stores; the entrance to the corridor is across the aisle from the elevators.

(2) IF DRIVING FROM LEO TOLSTOY SQUARE/OLYMPIC STADIUM AREA, go through the large entrance on the corner of Khreshchatyk Street and Skoropadsky Street between the Porsche dealership and the Nebo nightclub.

(3) IF DRIVING FROM LESY UKRAYINKA BOULEVARD/PECHERSK AREA, make a left on Skoropadskyy Street leaving the Arena City/Mandarin Plaza complex on your right, pass the entrance to the underground parking; enter through an arch past the Burger Restaurant (the steps go down first, and then up to the courtyard).

(4) IF WALKING FROM KHRESHCHATYK STREET, go into the shopping center under the intersection of Khreshchatyk Street and Taras Shevchenko Boulevard (where the Lenin statue used to be), there are glass doors with Arena sign on them, behind the doors are the stairs and an escalator from the shopping center to the inner courtyard.

WHEN INSIDE THE OPEN-AIR INNER COURTYARD and facing the entrance to the large white canopy which is a restaurant, bear right leaving the white canopy on your left. The top of the building has a large Mandarin Plaza sign in red on the top floor. You will see the double doors next to the Armani clothing store with the SigmaBleyzer sign on them (as well as a LG sign).

Enter through the double doors, go up a few steps to the two elevators which also have the SigmaBleyzer sign in between them, take an elevator to the 8th Floor.  In case you are still unclear as to the location of SigmaBleyzer’s office, call SigmaBleyzer office at +38 (044) 284-1290.
