MichaelScuse has served as Under Secretary for the Farm and Foreign AgriculturalServices, USDA since May 14, 2012. The Under Secretary is the principalofficial of the United States department charged with administering programsand providing services to farmers which focus on supporting a sustainable andcompetitive agricultural system.
To accomplish this goal, the Under Secretary administers agricultural commodityinsurance, farm loans, conservation, environmental, emergency assistance, anddomestic and international food assistance programs. These programs areintended to provide cost-effective means of managing risk for agricultural producersin order to improve the economic stability of agriculture. The mission areaalso represents the diverse interests of the U.S. food and agriculturalsector’s international activities that focus on capacity building efforts,including developing African agriculture, furthering market access initiatives,and supporting the Administration’s objectives such as Feed the Future.
The Department of Agriculture is a key player in promoting global agribusinessdevelopment and furthering economic development in the agriculture sector inAfrica. Join Under Secretary Scuse as he shares his views on Africanagriculture.
