YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND a U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC) member's session "TURMOIL IN UKRAINE...A VIEW FROM WASHINGTON" an off-the-record briefing in Kyiv, Ukraine, by David Kramer, Senior Director for Human Rights and Democracy, The McCain Institute for International Leadership. 

The USUBC briefing session will be held on Friday, April 15, from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Conference room at the offices of SigmaBleyzer/The Bleyzer Foundation, 4a, Baseyna Street; "Mandarin Plaza/Arena," 8th floor, Kyiv, Ukraine, a continental breakfast will be served.    

David Kramer is a  long-time top expert on Ukraine.  Mr. Kramer served eight years in the U.S. Department of State, including as Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor; Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs (responsible for Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus affairs as well as regional non-proliferation issues); and Professional Staff Member in the Secretary’s Office of Policy Planning; and Senior Advisor to the Undersecretary for Global Affairs.

David J. Kramer joined The McCain Institute, www.McCainInstitute.com, as Senior Director for Human Rights and Democracy in November 2014. Before that, he served for four years as President of Freedom House. Prior to that, he was a Senior Transatlantic Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States.  Kramer has written numerous articles and op-ed's about Ukraine which have appeared in major magazines, newspapers and think-tank web pages. He is in considerable demand as a speaker and panelist for a large number of meetings and conferences around the world.  David is a Senior Advisor to the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC), www.USUBC.org

David Kramer's briefing "Turmoil in Ukraine..A View from Washington" will be followed by an open discussion/Q&A session.  Morgan Williams, President, USUBC, www.USUBC.org will moderate the briefing session.  David is in Kyiv to attend the Open Ukraine Foundation's 9th Kyiv Security Forum.

BIO:  DAVID J. KRAMER, Senior Director for Human Rights and Democracy, McCain Institute for International Leadership

David J. Kramer joined The McCain Institute for International Leadership as Senior Director for Human Rights and Democracy in November 2014. Before that, he served for four years as President of Freedom House. Prior to that, he was a Senior Transatlantic Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States.

Mr. Kramer has been an Adjunct Professor at the Elliott School for International Affairs at The George Washington University. Mr. Kramer is a member of the board of directors of the Halifax International Security Forum. He also was Executive Director of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy in Washington.

Before joining the U.S. Government, Mr. Kramer was a Senior Fellow at the Project for the New American Century, Associate Director of the Russian and Eurasian Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and Assistant Director of Russian and Eurasian Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, all in Washington.

Prior to moving to Washington, he was a Lecturer in Russian Studies at Clark University in Worcester, Mass. and a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University. He also served as an analyst for the Christian Science Monitor Network during the collapse of the Soviet Union. A native of Massachusetts, Mr. Kramer received his M.A. in Soviet studies from Harvard University and his B.A. in Soviet Studies and Political Science from Tufts University.

Mr. Kramer is a Senior Advisor to the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC),  member of the board of directors of the Halifax International Security Forum and a Member of the Advisory Council for the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s Human Freedom Project.
