Member of the Bank’s leadership with responsibility for formulating corporate strategy

Alexia Latortue has joined the EBRD as Managing Director, Corporate Strategy. In this position she will be part of the Bank’s leadership as a permanent member of the Executive Committee and have overall responsibility for formulating corporate strategy, including advising the President on strategic options for the Bank and developing the Bank’s core strategic documents. She will also manage relationships with other international financial institutions and lead on cross-departmental special initiatives.

Alexia Latortue has 20 years’ experience in international development and financial systems development. Prior to joining the EBRD, she was the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Development Policy at the US Department of the Treasury.

She oversaw the United States of America’s participation in the multilateral development banks (MDBs), the G20 Development Working Group and the Paris Club as well as the US Treasury’s engagement in the development of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Ms Latortue has advised on strategies to advance inclusive growth and poverty reduction internationally and to modernise the effectiveness, efficiency, financial capacity and governance of MDBs. She also led the replenishment negotiations of the concessional windows of the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the African Development Bank.

Before her career at the US Treasury, Ms Latortue worked at the World Bank for 10 years where her last assignment was Deputy CEO of the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), a unit dedicated to advancing financial inclusion. Prior to that, Ms Latortue served in several development-related positions focused on financial inclusion, economic policy reform and private sector development.

A US citizen, Ms Latortue grew up in Puerto Rico, West Africa and Austria. She has lived and worked in France, Haiti and the US. Ms Latortue received an M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and a B.S. from Georgetown University.
