DTEK participates in 50th WEF Meeting in Davos and hosts a Green Deal event
The World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos is the foremost creative force for engaging the world's top leaders in collaborative activities to shape global, regional and industry agendas at the beginning of each year. The theme of the 2020 Forum is “Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World”. Climate change agenda has been put in the focus of the meeting, and DTEK had a chance to re-confirm its commitment to helping Ukraine become the leader of decarbonization in the Central and Eastern Europe and join the Green Deal roadmap.
President Zelenskyy and DTEK CEO Mr. Timchenko were the only two Ukrainians who spoke at this year’s WEF meeting in Davos. Mr. Timchenko was honored to moderate the Electricity Industry Governors session on accelerating progress towards net-zero carbon cities of the future. DTEK CEO Mr. Timchenko has also participated in the SDG Ambition event “Scale and Impact for the Global Goals” organized by the UN Global Compact. The SDG Ambition initiative will challenge thousands of companies to raise their level of ambition to meet the needs of society and planet by integrating sustainability into strategy and operations. DTEK fully shares this vision and SDG goals are part of Company’s long-term development strategy.
DTEK has also organized a Davos roundtable dinner-discussion “A European Green Deal — How Can Ukraine’s Energy Sector Contribute?”. On December 11th, 2019, the EU’s new College of Commissioners issued a communication on the European Green Deal. It is a growth strategy aiming at transforming the EU into a fair and prosperous society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy with neutral greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Ukraine can and should be part of this Green Deal for not only the benefit and prosperity of the country, but also as a committed European partner.
As a member of the World Economic Forum, DTEK is the only representative of Ukraine’s energy sector at this year’s WEF Annual Meeting. DTEK embraces the promise of a greener, more efficient and consumer-oriented energy sector that Ukraine’s energy sector reforms entail. We hope that the roundtable dinner-discussion will be a start of efficient cooperation between business, the state and international partners to contribute to implementation of the mentioned reforms to the benefit of Ukraine’s population and economy.
