Baden, SWITZERLAND — July 23, 2020 — GE Steam Power (NYSE: GE) announced today it has been selected by AtomRemontServis for its first Multi-Year Agreement (MYA) in Ukraine on the Khmelnitskiy and Rivne nuclear power plants. Under the agreement, GE Steam Power will provide maintenance services on the power plants’ four generators over the next three years to help ensure reliable operations of the two sites.
The Khmelnitskiy and Rivne nuclear power plants play a critical role in the Ukrainian power supply, generating a combined 5.5 gigawatts (GW) of reliable, CO2-free power – enough for approximately 6 million Ukrainian residents. As the country approaches its commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent below 1990 levels and its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution has set a target to cap greenhouse gas emissions at 60 percent of 1990 levels by 2030, the continued operation of these nuclear plants will help support Ukraine’s energy objectives.
“AtomRemontServis is committed to delivering reliable nuclear power for Ukraine in support of the country’s clean energy goals,” said Vitaliy Shikun, Director of AtomRemontServis. “We look forward to working with GE as our service partner on the generators at Khmelnitskiy and Rivne nuclear power plants. We count on them to help us achieve long-term, high performance operations.”
AtomRemontServis is a subsidiary of NNEGC Energoatom, the owner and operator of all nuclear plants in Ukraine which account for nearly half of the country’s energy supply. This new service agreement with AtomRemontServis marks GE Steam Power’s first MYA in Ukraine.
“GE Steam Power’s global expertise combined with our regional presence as a services team gives us the ability to support customers like AtomRemontServis where and how they need us. Through this new service agreement, we are expanding our long-term nuclear service capabilities into Ukraine,” said Paul Wise, Europe Region General Manager for GE Steam Power. “As the only proven large-scale, dependable energy source delivering reliable power with no CO2 emissions, nuclear power plants play an important role for many countries across Europe and in Ukraine in particular. We look forward to supporting AtomRemontServis for years to come.”
GE Steam Power has more than 130 nuclear multi-year agreements worldwide and performs around 100 nuclear outages per year across Europe. Today GE steam turbine technology operates in 50 percent of the world’s nuclear power plants with the ability to deliver more than 200 GW to the grid. This includes GE’s Arabelle steam turbine which represents six decades of nuclear steam turbine expertise and is the most powerful turbine in the world by output.
