USUBC and Atlantic Council Host High-Level Energy/Minerals Dinner

On July 10 – USUBC, jointly with the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center, co-hosted a high-level Energy/Minerals Dinner.  This event, moderated by Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt, Senior Managing Director at McLarty Associates, gathered senior government officials, industry leaders and strategic partners from the U.S. and Ukraine for an in-depth moderated discussion on energy and critical minerals cooperation.

On the Government of Ukraine (GOU) side the event was attended by Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Economy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, Minister of Energy of Ukraine and Yegor Perelygin, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine and members of the GOU team. The United States Government (USG) was represented by Joshua Volz, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy for European and Eurasian Affairs of the U.S. Department of Energy, Ambassador Julie Davis, Chargé d’Affaires, the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv and members of USG team. Private sector investors were represented by CEOs, Board Members and other senior decision-makers.

The event opened with Olga Khakova, Deputy Director of European Energy Security, Global Energy Center, Atlantic Council and Irina Paliashvili, USUBC President & CEO welcoming the participants and outlining the key topics of the discussion.  Following the welcoming remarks by First Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, the keynote remarks were delivered by Minister German Galushchenko and Deputy Minister Yegor Perelygin with the Deputy Assistant Secretary Joshua Volz and Ambassador Julie Davis engaging in the dialogue on the USG side. 

Following introductions of the participants, the roundtable discussion featured Riaz Awan, Vice President, Holtec; Bridget Gainer, Global Head, Public Affairs & Policy, Aon; Serhii Koretskyi, Chairman of the Board and CEO, Naftogaz; Petro Kotin, Acting CEO, JSC NNEGC Energoatom; Dan Lipman, President, Energy Systems, Westinghouse; Roger Martella, Chief Corporate Officer, GE Vernova; Brian Menell, Chairman and CEO, TechMet Limited; Nadiia Petruchenko, CBO, SPP Development Ukraine, Co-Founder; Stuart Testar, Director of Government Affairs & Public Policy, Baker Hughes; Maxim Timchenko, CEO, DTEK; and Sergii Voitsekhovskyi, Member of the Board, BGV Group Management – along with other private sector leaders.

The discussion centered on financial, technical and political levers to accelerate project deployment, mobilize investment and integrate Ukraine’s energy and minerals capacities into global markets.  Participants explored mechanisms to de-risk private sector engagement, address regulatory and logistical hurdles and strengthen Ukraine’s contribution to global energy security. A key focus was the newly launched U.S.-Ukraine Economic Partnership in energy, critical minerals and reconstruction.
